Privacy Policy

Last updated: December 2024

Overview

SendBySound is designed with privacy as a core principle. Our application transfers text between devices using audio signals, and all processing happens entirely within your browser. We do not operate backend servers that process, store, or transmit your data.

Data We Do Not Collect

SendBySound does not collect, store, or transmit any of the following:

  • Text or messages you send or receive
  • Audio recordings from your microphone
  • Personal information or identifiers
  • Usage patterns or behavioral data
  • Device information beyond what your browser provides

How SendBySound Works

When you use SendBySound, all audio encoding and decoding happens locally in your web browser using the ggwave library. Your text is converted to audio signals on your device and decoded on the receiving device. No data passes through our servers because there are no servers involved in the data transfer process.

The audio transmission occurs directly through the air between devices using your speaker and microphone. This means your data never touches the internet during transfer.

Local Storage

SendBySound does not store any of your data locally. The application does not use browser storage mechanisms such as localStorage, sessionStorage, IndexedDB, or cookies to save your messages or any personal information. Each session starts fresh with no retained data from previous uses.

Third-Party Services

Our website uses the following third-party services:

  • Google Analytics (via Google Tag Manager): We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors interact with our website. This helps us improve the user experience. Google Analytics may collect anonymous usage data such as pages visited, time spent on site, and general geographic location. You can opt out of Google Analytics by using a browser extension or adjusting your browser settings.
  • Google AdSense: We display advertisements through Google AdSense to support the free operation of this service. Google may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to our website or other websites. You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings.

Microphone Access

SendBySound requires microphone access to receive audio signals. When you click "Start Listening," your browser will request permission to access your microphone. This audio data is processed entirely within your browser to decode incoming transmissions. We do not record, store, or transmit any audio from your microphone. The audio stream is processed in real-time and immediately discarded after decoding.

Audio Transmission Security

While SendBySound provides a convenient way to transfer text between devices, please be aware that audio transmissions can be heard or captured by anyone within range of the sound. We recommend using SendBySound in private settings when transferring sensitive information such as passwords or personal data.

Progressive Web App (PWA)

SendBySound can be installed as a Progressive Web App on your device. When installed, it stores only the application code needed to run offline. No user data or messages are stored as part of the PWA installation.

Children's Privacy

SendBySound does not knowingly collect any information from children under the age of 13. Since we do not collect personal information from any users, this applies to users of all ages.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated revision date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
